How is the Diamond Hybrid created?

The Diamond Hybrid is created by placing a perfectly cut crystal core or substrate into a chamber of intense heat and pressure and infusing lab-created diamond crystals, or bonding them at a molecular level, into the outer layers of the crystal core. These lab created diamond crystals stack up on the core and realign with each other. The finished product is a diamond infused simulant that has a non precious crystal core and a solid outer layer of lab-created diamond that will never wear off or detach from the core.

What is the hardness and durability of a Diamond Hybrid?

The Diamond Hybrid has a hardness of 8.8, similar to a precious gem, like a Sapphire or Ruby, and should be treated with the same care. While it is incredibly hard, it is possible to damage a Diamond Hybrid as it is a simulant and NOT a diamond. The Hybrid stone, because of its infused outer diamond layer, is also nearly two times harder than an ordinary cubic zirconia and will not absorb oils from the everyday use of soaps, lotions and, beauty products.

If you are looking for something more durable, please take a look at our real lab grown diamonds.

FAQ

Is the Diamond Hybrid a lab created diamond?

No, a Diamond Hybrid is a simulant, meaning it is not pure carbon like a lab grown diamond.

How is the Diamond Hybrid different from a grown or mined diamond?

A lab grown and earth mined diamond are both real diamonds and contain 100% pure carbon. A Diamond Hybrid is a stunning look-alike, perfect for placeholder rings, earrings, and pendants.

Can I upgrade my Diamond Hybrid when I'm ready to purchase a lab created diamond?

Yes, we are full service jewelers and would be happy to replace your center stone later on with a lab created diamond. Just contact us and we will take care of it for you.

What other products or companies use diamond coating technology?

Diamond coating technology is known to be been used within computer components, construction tools and was employed by NASA in the year 2000. They called their technology 'Ultra C' diamond. NASA used Ultra C diamond crystals to coat the Hubble and Shuttle, eliminating wear and tear on all moving parts in the extreme conditions of space.

Diamond coating has proven in many different ways to enhance the overall toughness of the products it is applied to and similarly the MiaDonna Diamond Hybrid coating process does just that.

What is a Simulant Diamond?

A Simulant Diamond, “simulates or mirrors” the look of a diamond and is non-precious and not made of the same properties.

Examples of diamond simulants are Cubic Zirconia (CZ), Moissanite and White Topaz. These simulant stones are very inexpensive and contain no diamond. However, we call it a "Hybrid" because it is a blend of created diamond and diamond simulate technology. We start with a porous crystal core that is not diamond and then infuse a form of amorphous diamond on the outer layer. Because it’s not pure crystallized carbon and not 100% chemically identical to the earth-mined diamond it is still classified as a simulant.

Does a Diamond Hybrid Simulant come with a Warranty?

MiaDonna was founded by consumers, so we go above and beyond to protect our customers with 3 comprehensive Warranty/Guarantee programs. These complimentary programs include our Lifetime Guarantee, Complimentary Insurance and Loss / Theft Insurance.

Does a Diamond Hybrid come with 3rd party verification?

To add additional peace of mind, every Diamond Hybrid comes with an identification card from Global Gem Lab, a world-renowned gemological laboratory. It includes a description of the technology and verifies that the Diamond Hybrid is created with an infusion of lab created diamond.

What is the difference between the Diamond Hybrid® and simulants offered from other jewelers?

The Diamond Hybrid is made with a form of man made diamond, unlike cubic zirconia and moissanite which have no diamond components! It looks and feels like a diamond.
