We sat down with Justine Elliott, the Sales Manager at MiaDonna, to find out some of the common questions she’s asked and her tips for selecting the perfect engagement ring.

I have no idea want kind of ring my partner wants. How do I get something she’ll like?

If you’re not sure what she wants, I always suggest you focus all your time and effort on finding the perfect diamond and set it in a simple solitaire engagement ring setting. Our best sellers are the Dior and the Traditional. After you propose, we can all work together to find the perfect setting to reset your diamond. Even better, we will give you a credit for the setting cost to use toward the new setting.

My partner leads a very active lifestyle.  Any recommendations about what I should get?

I recommend getting a bezel set lab-grown diamond, like the Lilac Stackable Engagement Ring, which have metal completely around the center stone, to give it maximum protection. Stay away from accented diamonds on the band or a halo, where the smaller stones are more susceptible to getting damaged. 

How often should I have my ring professionally inspected?

Bring in your ring every 6-12 months to have your prongs checked and to make sure your center stone isn’t loose. We’ll also check to make sure your side stones are secure and we’ll give the ring a deep cleaning free of charge. But if you suspect something is loose, bring it in right away.

What trends are you seeing in Engagement Rings right now?

I’m loving that people are really making their engagement ring a statement of their own personal style. I am seeing a lot of people choosing a simple, classic solitaire for their engagement ring, and then adding flare with a more elaborate fashionable band/s in a mix of metal colors. The engagement ring I’m looking at doesn’t have a matching band. What should I do?

Most people want their wedding band to match their engagement ring. We have several options throughout the collections so if your ring doesn’t come with a specific band we still have options that will match. If you don’t find one you love, we can always custom create a band for you.

Any ideas on how I can make my ring really unique?

If you want something really individual, look for a center stone with a fancy shape or color. Our lab-grown diamonds come in a variety of colors, from pink to blue to yellow, and we carry some of the most extraordinary shapes like triangle and even hexagon. Many of our rings can be set with a variety of shapes, even if you do not see it on our website, or we can custom create a one-of-kind ring just for you.

What if my partner doesn’t like the ring I choose?

No problem, our jewelry comes with 30-day free returns (not applicable to custom orders). If your partner doesn’t like the ring, we can help them choose another setting or give you a full refund. Remember, if you are unsure, start with the perfect diamond and we can work on the setting later.

How do I care for the ring?

Fine jewelry requires some love to keep it looking its best. To protect the setting, make sure you don’t wear the ring to bed, in the shower, when you exercise, or when working around the house. To keep it bright and shiny, once a week soak your jewelry in the provided cleaner overnight then rinse it in hot water. I personally take off my rings when I get home so I can make sure I don’t accidentally scratch the band or wear down the prongs. 

My partner is constantly changing her style so I’m afraid she is going to get tired of the ring I choose. What should I do?

It’s so easy today to change up the look of a ring with different bands. Many bands are designed to be worn stacked or interchangeably. I would get a traditional solitaire setting with a stunning diamond, then add bands to mix it up. But it’s also normal for your personal style to change over the years. We are a full service jeweler and can work with you to reset your center stone into a different ring style, if you wish.

I’m hesitant to buy a diamond now, because I know I’ll be making more money in the future. Should I wait?

Help, I don’t know what ring size to get. Any suggestions?

No problem. Call or email us and we will send you a free ring sizer. If you want to keep it a surprise, we suggest taking one of her current rings to a jeweler and they will be able to tell you its size.

I just found out I’m supposed to give my bride-to-be a special gift on our wedding day? Can you help?
