Our Volunteering Day with Tuft & Needle

In the diamond industry, there is so much disruption of communities, families and natural resources. At MiaDonna, we always try to do whatever we can to help replenish society and our beautiful planet. That’s why we founded our charity foundation, The Greener Diamond. We wanted to be able to put our profits back into important projects and people around the world.

Our most recent project is one we’re pretty proud to be a part of! On April 25th, our team helped facilitate the donation of $130,000 worth of brand new Tuft & Needle mattresses to three local Portland-based non-profit organizations: With Love, Community Warehouse and Portland Rescue Mission. Tuft & Needle felt inspired to give back to the local Portland community after opening their new store in Cedar Hills and were eager to work with MiaDonna to help make this vision a reality.

“MiaDonna is a social enterprise built around the concept of compassion and community,” says MiaDonna founder and CEO Anna-Mieke Anderson.

“When Tuft & Needle asked to partner with us on this project, we knew we had to donate our time and resources to make sure the people of Portland could benefit from this incredible donation.”

Our team spent the afternoon with a group of great individuals and advocates for these non-profits to organize and divide the large quantity of mattresses. These brand new, comfy mattresses will go to families and individuals in foster care and who just need a good night’s sleep. We often take sleep and having a safe bed for granted, so we are overjoyed to know that we helped play a part in making a child’s night safer, happier and more peaceful.

"We believe everyone deserves a great night's sleep, so finding an amazing organization that has the ability to reach these local non-profits was an incredible way to give back while also keeping product out of recycling facilities and landfills,” says Tuft & Needle Gives Back Lead Melanie LaDue.

Giving back to the community has been an integral part of Tuft & Needle since the company was founded in 2012. T&N invented the return donation process that is now common practice in the industry—any mattress that is returned by a customer within their 100-Night Sleep Trial is donated to T&N’s vast network of partnering donation centers across the United States. We found great pleasure in working with T&N to make the greatest impact possible in our community. Local business Electrical Distributing Inc. also stepped in and donated warehouse space and staff to house the mattresses and aid in the distribution process.
